day fishing this week was not all it is cracked up to be. the fluke just did not want to show up for a day of fishing. i guess no on called them to tell them that we were on the way. but this is what happened. on monday memorial day a few fish were caught none that made your head turn and so oh my, but it was a day on the bay. on wednesday, after what happened on monday we started out drifting for the flatfish then changed our mind and went drumming. this was the right move tony palmer from ridley pa. went from never catching a drum to catching not just one but two. needless to say tony was a happy pup. along with tony that day was a good group from the boyerstown pa. area that came down to enjoy a day on the delaware bay. it was nice to fish with all of you. thanks zack adam, don daddario, doug light, robert light, ed light, mike light, and we can not leave out kelly hanson. with all these light guys i wish one of them was named coors light. the strange fish during the day was a stargazer caught drifting inside the old house. well we will see what this weekend holds, and what capt. joe can find in the flukin fishing.

BEAT OF THE DRUM

this is what it is for drum fishing. one day it is on fire, and the next it is just hot. this past week drum fishing is still the thing about town. wednesday night open boat was off the hook. in all total we had 30 fish hooked up thru the night. at times it 3 fish at once. the big fish of the night was a 85lb drum, nice. the odd ball fish on wednesday was a 23 inch flattie on the hook at pin top. this was a nice surprise. as the week went on the fishing slowed a bit. i blame this on blood worm joe and eric. after daily calls for fishing updates, and some ball breaking i now realize that they are the drum fish hex. they did manage 4 decant fish so it was not that bad. the friday night group was leon from beuna. it was not a fast night of fishing, but they were in the hunt, the boys managed to boat 4 nice fish. the only problem was that it was early in the night and the tide was slow turning around so we did not see the next bite. that is why it is called fishing, not catching. the weather looks good for the upcoming week so we will keep going, and going, and going.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

what a night, boom boom boom is the best way to say it. on sunday steve house made his trip down to do some drum fishing. steve fished with us for many years back when the trout swam freely, and plentifully .by the time we got set up it was 5:00pm ,flat seas, and little did we know what was about to happen. within 5 min. the first hook up came. then up to 8:30 they did not stop. we had a few break offs but we did manage to boat 19 of the boomers. then it was time to go home. this is drumming at it's best. it was nice to see you and your boys steve and dave. i guess time moves on and now it is time for the next generation to start fishing. i just hope they do not hear all the stories about what happened to dave. thanks.

chuckie lewis and the boys

it is a bit late to post but this is it. chuck arrived with his dad bob and the boys.up to this point it was so so for the drum. we got set up and it was not long after that the first one took the bait. this was a good thing in a few ways. one it was the first fish of the night, second it was chase farabellas 1 drum fish. after a short battle and some encouragement from dad jody a nice 40lb drum hit the deck. what we did not know at that time is that it was chase birthday, so happy birthday chase. we made a small adjustment and then things got better. steve davis hooked up with a decent 50lb drum. then the man, the myth, the legend, puddle with his light stick, luke skywalker, fishing pole, that can be seen for a mile, hooked up with his pup of a fish. the big fish of the night came from tommy paypaner with his 70lb boomer, nice fish. in all 5 nice drum were caught, not a bad night. thanks chuckie, bob, tommy, jody, chase, steve richie, newt, chuck, john, j.t. and of course puddle.

friday was the last day that our options remained closed for day fishing. we did go after the drum, and found one in the 50lb class. on saturday the gate to the 2009 flounder season opened up with a few people around, so we set out for the day of founder fishing. as of 1:00 pm we have 45 keeper flounder on the boat. i hope this holds up to give us a banner year. so if flounder is what you want come on down and get ya some. we sail at 7:30 am 7 days a week. PLEASE CHECK OUR NEW CALENDER FOR DATES THAT ARE CHARTED.

DRUM HAS BEGUN

the beat of the drum has begun. on wednesday the 20th of may we set out for the open boat trip and got off to a slow start. after a bit of moving around we found a few. 3 to be exact, all in the 25 - 30 lb range.rocky from n. jersey pulled one up to start us off. then bob, after some tech advice on spelling banged one out . then it was bad uncle mike that finished us up for the night. it was no big catch but we did manage a few.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JERRY

this group started fishing with us last year and each time jerrry's kids come down all catch execpt jerry .last night was not any different. the wind was kicking on the way down, but that only added to the night. brian hooked up first with a 30lb drum on his k-mart rod and zebco real with 12 lb test line. after some coaching he boated his fish in true fashion. then we lost a fish or two. then we hand lined one to the boat and that to got away. then brian hooked up again to boat his 2ed drum of the night. then we lost some more fish. then brian hooked up again and limited out for the night. then we went home before the storm found us. it was a great night with good people. i look forward to fishing with you guys again. thank you

TONY AND THE BOYS

it was friday the 15 and all was well, that was of course until tony and the boys showed up. i gave them the speech of the fishing has been slow, real slow. that did not seam to bother them, so off we went. once out at the hot spot snoop drum fish hooked up, he did his shizzle with the beast that beat his drum. he set the pace for all others to follow. then it was tony , and let's not leave out poohda with his limit. in all 10 drum came back to the fort. this was the trip that we needed to get the skunk off. the st. louis boys received some back woods, down home life tips that my make st. louis a bit like south jersey. thanks to tony and the boys. see you soon

DRUM BITE OK ! YEA ! SURE !

i know that some groups have not had their drum trips posted. their is a good reason for this. the drum fish have come down with a major case of lock jaw. on saturday the 9 nacho and the boys came down and after last years two hot trips they received the delaware bay goose egg. one thing that i learned with this trip is nocho can turn two different colors when he does not feel well, but this passed when we got back to the dock. then on tuesday the 12 we had the pros on. i felt that this group will catch fish even if the fish were not feeling the need to bite. well once again WRONG blood worm joe and the boys received their 2ed delaware bay goose egg in many, many, many years that they have fished with us. that trip was a tough one. on wednesday the 13 the open boat trip received the same, OUCH. the fish are their, and they will start to bite, the question is when? when they start it is going to nuts. we will keep going and one night it will happen.

LEON AND THE BOYS 10/9

friday night was a trip that had many levels of interest. first long time fisherman and good friend started out our 2009 drum season with the first charter. leon and his group came down to give it a whirl. after arriving on the drum grounds leons uncle hooked up within 15 min. it was a 30lb pup. i thought this is it, its going to one of those nights , great. WRONG the fish had other thoughts. lock jaw set in in a major way. this was to be our only drum of the night. one of the good things that did come of the trip is that along with leon was a long time friend that has slipped down to the sunshine state to live in that relaxed mode of pina coliadas and fishing the sunsets returned to visit. zip ( the mailman ) zuker graced our presence by being their. nice to see you zip and let lil know that joe jr. and i said hello. all in all it was again one for the books. thank you leon and the boys. and you to, leons bar keep. i forgot your name!

May 2

today was the official opening day, as usual the weather man had other plans for saturday. it was light winds and calm, and 55 - 60 degrees. NICE . reports of drum fish have started to filter in and we went down to the drum grounds. after some time, long time fisherman wayne hooked into the first drum of 2009. a short battle latter the fish was in the box. this was our only drum of the day. their were more caught on other boats, so it is correct to say the bite has started. it can only get better from this point on.
